15″ Oklahoma Prison Made Tooled Roping Saddle

$1,775.00

This is easily one of the most incredible saddles we’ve ever seen or had in. Various state run prisons across the country offer products made by inmates-in part to bring income into the prison system, but also to offer quality and high value trade training and skills to assist in future employment of inmates. Most often, “prison made” is synonymous with horsehair hitched bridles, handmade bits and spurs with less awareness of saddles and other leather goods. If you see this saddle in person, you sure won’t forget it! While not marked with the maker, aside from the initials HBR, this one is fully hand made and hand stitched. No machines were used in creating this literal piece of art. 15″ seat, fitting just a teeny bit smaller with a very deep seat that rides very securely. On wide fitting Full QH bars that measures 7″ with a very wide fork ankle and a bit of rock through the bars. Deeper seat on this one with a 4″ cantle, reinforced post horn that measures 3.5″ x 2.75″ and is currently rubber wrapped. Comes fitting with matching fully tooled pulling collar and rear rigging with back cinch. Not a single corner was cut building this beauty. Fully hand tooled in a very classic Sheridan tooling pattern of oak leaves and acorns. All rigging is Al Stohlman, including star conchos. 27″ skirt. Real wool shearling underside. Fenders have been cut a bit (holes 1 and 2 have been cut) but hardly impacts the length of the fender at all, really just the slack. A slot has been cut in the underskirt to notch out a space for the latigo, which is quite a handy modification, but not original. This is a darn nice rig, designed to work and hold up to anything you throw its way. This one weighs in at 42lbs with its tack, so not one to look if you’re looking for lightweight. The leather on this saddle is butter soft. Overall, in very good used condition-build in 2005. Back cinch and breast collar show more use than the saddle. The deep tooling has some dust in it, but overall this saddle is in incredible condition. Marked “Oklahoma Department of Corrections” behind the cantle. This saddle is a literal piece of history. Ride in it now and add it to your collection later. You won’t see one like this available anytime soon, that’s for sure.
