Our mentor, Cliff Langerud, has a stunning book of some of the most iconic and respected saddle builders of all time. This book, fondly known as the “Humble Book” serves as an example of our goals. Never, never in a million years did we ever think we’d be able to offer a saddle from a builder showcased in the Humble Book. Skyhorse Saddlery aren’t just builders of saddles, they are pieces of art. Each unique, built with the finest materials, and with details that are just beyond comprehension. This all around equitation saddle was build in 1992, designed to recognize an incredible Arabian breeding program and presented at Scottsdale’s year end show. While it was built to work, it has spent its life as a cornerstone of an incredible collection and is literally pristine! Built on Arab Bars, but don’t let the word “Arab” scare you away. All that means is it has shorter bars on the front to accommodate a deeper shoulder, has rock through the bars, and a shorter skirt. This one fits like wide Full QH bars with a 7.5″ gullet, ample flare and some rock. Real shearling underside, shorter skirt at just 27″. Measures and fits true to 15.5″ while still having a deeper seat with a 4″ cantle. Roping style post horn that measures 3″ x 3.5″, meaning this one can hold a rope and hold up to some harder work. Balance style, in skirt, 3 point rigging which allows for varying options on cinch placement while reducing bulk and rubbing. What earned Skyhorse Saddlery a place in the ‘Humble Book’ are the details, and this saddle is fullllllll of details you won’t see anywhere else. The whole edge of this saddle is riata/round braided detailing, carried through with stitching down the swells and around the horn. All conchos and hardware on this saddle is hand hammered, American mined brass. The brass detailing is carried through along the pommel and the cantle, each bound in hand braided brass lacing. Loren and Lisa Skyhorse aren’t just master saddlers, they are also well respected jewelers and that brass lacing fully proves that. Two toned in black and chestnut leather, all hand tooled. While we don’t normally offer ‘trophy’ or highly personalized saddles, but of course this is the exception. There is personalization on the fender. Now, to somehow make this one even better, it comes with its original and matching rear rigging, breast collar, and headstall. In absolutely incredible condition, butter soft leather, and hardly any signs of riding or use. Minor and small scuffs here and there, but we are being so darn picky at this point. Right now, there is literally three used Skyhorse saddles on the market. These literal pieces of art don’t come along very often. We are honored to offer a saddle from a builder straight from the pages of the ‘Humble Book’ and we know you will love this one as much as we do.
