This bit comes with some sadness…this bit represents the end of an era and an incredible team of silversmiths/bit makers. Bill and Denise Hill ran Hill Silversmiths together for decades, representing one of the best modern bit makers. Many didn’t realize how talented and involved Denise was until Bill died, she took over the bit making and created literal works of art. This bit is a very early one, made while Bill was still alive and likely was built together. This one was sold to a longtime collector and friend of her’s not long before her passing. Denise sadly passed away in 2019, and many of her last bits are forever in people’s collections. This one is so darn classy, representing an end of an era in so many ways. Ok, enough about the amazing history of this bit and onto details:
Lightly used, 5″ mouth with a copper, tall rounded port that measures 2 1/8″ tall and 1″ wide (on inside). Thicker diameter mouth, port is copper, mouth is sweet iron with copper inlays that has barley started to rust. Rotates at port and cheek. 8 1/2″ shanks. The silver work is incredible on this bit. Very refined shank, silver everywhere you can put it. Marked HILL 29. Bit of patina on the sterling, some minor scraping to the inside of the shank (browned steel), but in excellent condition. Brilliant balance and feel, this is a weightier bit. Show legal. This one is ready to ride, or be apart of a collection. This bit has some incredible stories to tell.
