Talk about a great, new bit that is way less than retail! New with tags from Trust Bits, this leather snaffle is a great version of a mullen mouth, made softer/kinder with leather. This is a great option for a horse who is adverse to metal and desires a more stable bit. 5.25″/13.5cm, new with tags but is missing its larger tag. Called a “Baby Pelham” as it has shorter shanks that measures just 4″. Per Trust:
We love that The pelham jaw piece combines the action of a snaffle and a bar. The bit has one jaw piece but can be ridden with one or two reins. If you choose to ride with one rein, a converter is needed. The pelham is a lever-action mouthpiece. The longer the shank, the sharper the effect. The baby pelham has short shanks and therefore has a milder effect than the normal pelham. A pelham bit is mainly used for strong horses, horses with too little space in the mouth for two mouthpieces, or horses that have to get used to a bar and snaffle.. The mouthpiece is a straight bar of leather with a nylon core. The saliva makes the leather soft and supple, so that it is very well accepted, as it adapts perfectly to the anatomy of the horse’s mouth. Even sensitive and mouth-sensitive horses usually get along very well with this mouthpiece. The leather is tanned without chemicals, so it poses no danger to humans or animals. To keep it soft and supple, it should be greased regularly with olive oil.
